Remote jobs with no required meetings — for working parents

📌 298 matching roles ✍️ Zero standing meetings, written-first culture

The single biggest enemy of a flexible work schedule for a working parent is the recurring meeting. A daily standup at 10 AM might sound innocuous, but it locks you into being online at 10 AM every weekday for the rest of your career at that company. A weekly one-on-one at 4 PM means you can never do school pickup on that day. A planning meeting that "always runs long" means the entire afternoon is unsafe to commit to anything else.

The roles on this page are filtered for the rarest find in remote work: jobs with zero required recurring meetings. Not "few meetings." Not "async-friendly with one daily standup." Zero. The companies that work this way tend to be unusual in a few ways — they almost always run engineering and operations through written documents, they hire people who can think in writing, and they've made an explicit cultural decision that real-time presence is not the same as work.

What you give up in a no-meetings job is the social connective tissue that meetings provide. The all-hands updates, the casual hallway-type conversations, the moments of shared problem-solving. Some people miss this; others find that the trade-off is overwhelmingly worth it. Most parents in our experience fall in the second camp — the predictability of an entirely meeting-free day is worth more than the connective tissue, particularly when you have small children at home.

What you don't give up is the relationship with your manager and team. The best no-meetings cultures replace synchronous meetings with extremely high-quality written check-ins: weekly written standup summaries, threaded discussions on important decisions, written one-on-one updates that the manager reads and responds to in their own time. The relationship is intact; the medium is different.

To find these roles outside of FlexCareers, look for companies whose engineering handbooks are public and explicitly describe a no-meetings or low-meetings culture. GitLab's handbook and Doist's "async manifesto" are two well-known examples; there are dozens more. The hit rate when you apply to companies whose published culture matches their actual culture is dramatically higher than when you apply broadly.

One word of warning: a "no meetings" promise during the interview process needs to be verified. Ask, specifically: "How many recurring meetings will be on my calendar in a typical week?" The right answer is zero, or one optional team coffee. The wrong answer is "we keep meetings minimal" — that phrase, in our experience, is correlated with seven hours of meetings a week.
